Rutgers University–Newark is launching a new Student AI Fluency course, powered by AI with Miss Excel, to help you build practical AI skills you can use in class, at work, and beyond Rutgers.
You don’t need to be a coder. You don’t need to be an AI expert. You just need to be curious.
Learn How to Use AI Better
The course is designed to help you move beyond simply asking an AI tool a question and hoping for a good answer.
You’ll learn how to:

Get more useful results from AI
Use AI for studying, brainstorming, research, and productivity
Spot inaccurate or made-up information
Make smart decisions about what information you share with AI tools
Use AI responsibly and with academic integrity

As you work through the course, you’ll earn digital badges that recognize the skills you develop along the way.
Your AI Fluency journey has four stages:

Don’t Get Fooled by AI
AI can be incredibly useful. It can also confidently give you an answer that is completely wrong.
That’s why AI fluency is about more than knowing which buttons to click. You need to know how to question AI output, check information, evaluate sources, and recognize when AI isn’t the right tool for the job.
Those skills matter in your classes now, and they’ll matter even more as you move into internships, jobs, graduate school, and your career.
Learn the AI Tools Available Through Rutgers
The course will also introduce you to AI-enabled tools and resources available through Rutgers.
You’ll learn not only how to use AI in general, but also how to take advantage of tools you already have access to as a Rutgers student, including tools for studying, writing, research, productivity, and creative work.
