About the kiosk
Borrow a Laptop in Minutes
Our automated laptop kiosks give students, faculty, and staff greater access to technology while having the mobility to work across campus. Using a touch-screen interface, any Rutgers–Newark community member with a valid Rutgers ID can borrow a laptop in just a few steps — no reservation, no paperwork.
Each kiosk holds 12 Dell laptops pre-loaded with standard Rutgers campus software. Kiosks are available at Dana Library, the PRCC Cyber Lounge, and the Hill Hall Lounge.

How to Use the Laptop Kiosk
The kiosk has a touch-screen interface. You'll need your physical Rutgers ID card to swipe in. The whole checkout process takes less than a minute.
Checking out a laptop
- Select "Checkout" on the kiosk touch screen: Tap the Checkout option on the kiosk's main screen to begin the process.
- Swipe your Rutgers ID card: Swipe your physical Rutgers ID card through the card reader on the kiosk.
- Enter your NetID password: Type your NetID password on the touch screen to authenticate your identity.
- Retrieve your laptop: Once authenticated, the kiosk will select a laptop for you. The screen will show which slot to retrieve it from — take the laptop and you're ready to go.
Returning a laptop
- Find any empty slot and insert the laptop: You can return the laptop to any open slot on any kiosk in the same building. Insert it firmly until you hear a click.
- Select a reason for returning: The kiosk will prompt you to select a reason for returning the laptop. Choose the option that best applies.
- Receive your return receipt: The kiosk will confirm the return and issue a receipt. Keep this as confirmation that the laptop was returned on time.
Remember: All files and documents are permanently deleted from the laptop when it is returned or rebooted. Save your work to cloud storage, a USB drive, or email it to yourself before returning.
